Badge & Points Enhancements

Academy badges can be awarded to learners when they complete a course or program and points can be attached to badges. Depending on your platform objectives and configuration, points can be used to:

  • stack multiple courses together in order to award a higher credential or certificate once a certain point threshold has been reached
  • or points can be used as "hours" to meet continuing professional development (CPD) requirements.

Either way, we have introduced some new features to the existing badge and point functionality to:

  • expire points and/or badges after a period of time - you might use this for credentials or capabilities that have to be renewed on a regular basis, like a first aid certificate.
  • claim missing points - this is a simple workflow that allows learners to query points they feel they have earned but can't see. For example, this might be because they earned the points in an earlier version of the course; or because they have earned points (or CPD hours) via a different system or process and would like those points to be reflected in their Academy profile.

Follow the links to read more about points programs and missing points claims, and if you would like to discuss or implement this functionality, contact us at support@guroolearning.com.

Task Feed User Interface Enhancements

The time had come to give Academy's Task Feed a bit of a makeover to help learners and facilitators find and view new task submissions easily and quickly.

In addition to a new design, users can also:

  • Change the order that tasks are displayed - choose from Learning Order (the order in which the tasks appears in the flow of the learning); Most New Responses; and Task Title.
  • New responses that have been submitted are flagged. Once a learner has viewed the new responses, the flag will disappear.

New Purchasing Journey

For customers who use Academy's catalogue, we're excited to release the first stage of our new purchasing journey. For now, this change is limited to a new screen design and an updated interface which shows each step of the purchasing journey for someone who is purchasing a course/program for themselves.

This gives us the building blocks we need to release two new purchasing journeys in a few month's time, including:

  • purchase a course/program on behalf of someone else
  • purchase multiple seats on a course/program for multiple members of my team

If you would like to know more about Academy's new purchasing journeys, please contact support@guroolearning.com.

Other New Features

Some other new and updated features to keep an eye out for:

Portfolio Enhancements

The Portfolio (available within a program via the header) collates all of a participant's submissions for a course/program into one place. Previously, the Portfolio only displayed tasks AFTER the task had been completed.

  • The Portfolio now displays all tasks (including tasks that the learner hasn't started) and the task status. Clicking on any of the tasks in the Portfolio will link the learner to the task within the learning journey.
  • We have also split the Portfolio into two parts: The Portfolio includes all tasks required as part of the learning journey and the Journal includes all submissions made as part of the digital learning modules. Digital modules will only display once the learner has completed them.

New, More Granular Role Permissions

Over the next 12 months, we will be gradually introducing a series of more granular permissions, which you can apply to different roles to better manage the security of your Academy platform. New permissions in this release include:

  • creating/copying programs
  • managing program templates

We're enabled these permissions for Portal and System Administrators by default. For any other roles, these permissions are disabled, but can be enabled if required.

New Sections in Onboarding

We've added two new sections to the Onboarding:

  1. If you wish to include an Acknowledgement of Country in your courses/programs (either as a written message or a video), you can now do this in the Onboarding. It has it's own dedicated section, which you can enable or disable as required. It's the second option in Onboarding.
  2. We have added a new Community section to Onboarding, which can be enabled if you have also enabled the Community in your course/program. The Community section is the 11th section in Onboarding and gives participants the opportunity to decide if they want to share their profile in the Community Directory for the course/program, and to upload a profile picture and add a biography of themselves.
